The article forgot to mention the animals that were an early part of “the farm” when the Monastery was first established. They even had cows, but not so today. The apiaries and collecting honey at the Monastery is a relatively new project. I don’t think it’s more than a couple of years old. I went to the Monastery gift shop and was stunned that a 10 ounce bottle of honey cost $12!!! Who can afford so little honey for that amount of money? I would like to see the Monastery honey available at some of the local restaurants and stores–like Yes! Market, Murray’s, CVS, Colonel Brooks, San Antonio Bar & Grill, Sureia’s, Murry and Paul, etc.

Wow, can’t believe I missed out on this back when I live in NE. Those Franciscans have a lot going on with the replicate Holy Land AND a mini farm.

Fascinating stuff! I love that we have uber-local honey. Chris was kind enough to give me a sample, and it’s good stuff. Hoping to incorporate it into one of my handmade soaps — named “Brooklandia” of course.

I’m a biog fan of the Monastery and their bees – yummy honey and it makes great gifts! How about we pressure the mayor acnd council to get bee-keeping and chickens too for that matter LEGALIZED for all in DC.

What a great tour of the fields and the beehives, the pictures are fantastic. The monastery is a haven where you can meditate and see God’s creatures, bees, butterflies, birds. This is a great site.
