Not Year of the Dragon

Not Year of the Dragon

The Chinese New Year Parade this past Sunday was crowded and fun. The Year of the Tiger brought folks out to view the parade as it went around Chinatown Chinablock. Kids and parents were enjoying themselves with silly string, flags, and tiger costumes. The lighting of the firecrackers happened early but at least there wasn’t any gas leaks this year. Even though my view was obscured for the fireworks display I was still able to get a couple of shots.

Brookland: Snowapocalypse Photoset

Posted in Brookland, Images of Brookland, Photography, Ward 5 on December 22nd, 2009 by brookland – 1 Comment

Photoset of snow photographs from Brookland during this weekend’s east coast Snowapocalypse. Will walking around 12th Street most of the stores and restaurants including Colonel Brooks and CVS ( for a bit).

We were able get some yummy chicken fried chicken from Brookland Grill before it closed at 4pm on Saturday. Newton Street Market was open until 4pm as well. Also Wings to Go, Subway, and Pizza Boli were open both Saturday and Sunday.

By the time I finished the mini photo tour on Saturday it was cold and dark, but I was able to snap a few photo’s of winter wonderland that was Brookland.

H Street Festival Photoset

Posted in Beyond Brookland, Photography on September 25th, 2009 by brookland – 2 Comments

Last weekend was the great H Street festival located in the blooming H Street / Atlas District in NE DC, the festival was between 10th and 14th Streets NE, bordered by stages on both sides, and packed full of folks enjoying a beautiful Saturday in September. There were a large number of food vendors, beer gardens, music, and karaoke.

Food vendors included the fabulous Fojol Bros. of Merlindia with their silver truck of goodness, yum. This year’s H street fest had a plethora of sounds, site, and taste and was a great time. Lots of interesting art, arts and art cars. The fest even include a guy dressed as an airplane running around handing out flyers.

Festivals like this makes me bemoan the lack of similar festivities in Brookland. Where is Brookland Day (Fest) this year? Anyone, Bueller?
